Once people try <a href=\"https:\/\/www.remotebharat.com\/\">working remotely<\/a>, up to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/state%20of%20remote%20work%20survey\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">99%<\/a>\u00a0want to continue, while 95% would recommend the practice to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"b6e6\">But that\u2019s not all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"e119\">A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/zapier.com\/blog\/remote-work-report-by-zapier\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zapier survey<\/a>&nbsp;revealed that 74% of workers would quit their jobs for the ability to work from anywhere. Meanwhile,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/content-static.upwork.com\/blog\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/10\/13131514\/Infographic_UP-URL_2040x1180-1024x592.png\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UpWork<\/a>&nbsp;projects that the majority of the workforce will be freelancing as soon as 2027. Globally,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/levels.io\/future-of-digital-nomads\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">one billion<\/a>&nbsp;people could be working in a remote capacity by 2035.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"996f\">Whether people become remote employees, online entrepreneurs, freelancers, or other gig workers \u2014 one thing\u2019s for sure \u2014 life will be nothing like the current 9\u20135. The world will change and reflect this new reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4cd1\">A force to reckon with<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"f5a4\">Once the number of remote workers reaches a critical mass, we will be hugely influential when it comes to topics such as immigration, economic and tax policy, zoning and city planning, geopolitics, and more. We will see sweeping changes in consumer behaviour and disruption across industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"a512\">New products and services catering to the digital workforce will flood the market. People who work remotely will have near-complete autonomy over their daily lives \u2014 potentially for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"6541\">After more than a decade of working from home or while travelling, here are twelve ways I think life will change when remote work becomes \u201cwork\u201d:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4867\">1. But the next revolution is digital. As our economy transforms from physical to virtual, it will directly impact where people live and work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3892\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/featured-insights\/future-of-work\/the-future-of-work-in-america-people-and-places-today-and-tomorrow\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">McKinsey<\/a>&nbsp;found that 30% of the U.S. population lives in twenty-five \u201cmegacities,\u201d due to the presence of jobs in tech, media, healthcare, real estate, and finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"8428\">But for how long?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"302a\">A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/245249\/americans-big-idea-living-country.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2018 Gallup Poll<\/a>&nbsp;showed that while 80% of Americans live in cities, only 12%&nbsp;<em>want&nbsp;<\/em>to. In response to rising housing prices and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/10\/16\/biggest-cities-in-us-are-losing-hundreds-of-workers-every-day.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">soul-crushing commutes<\/a>,\u201d metropolitan areas from New York to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2019\/08\/30\/bay-area-exodus-thousands-more-fleeing-region-than-arriving\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Francisco<\/a>&nbsp;are now experiencing a net loss in population growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"daa0\">People historically moved to cities for job opportunities. When geography is no longer a factor in finding a job, there will be a mass exodus away from urban areas as people search for a lower cost-of-living and higher quality of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5670\">Enter \u2014 Remote Work Programs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"c5a6\">To capitalize on the remote work trend and the growing number of people leaving cities, policymakers in Vermont, Nebraska, and Oklahoma have developed programs to help remote workers resettle in their states. They aim to spur economic development by offering potential residents&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/7aTbViTWq30\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">up to $10,000 in cash incentives<\/a>, housing allowances, and other means of support. In 2017,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/u\/530c4c926670?source=post_page-----cb8927ef1853--------------------------------\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Zapier<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/swlh\/should-tech-companies-offer-employee-de-location-packages-a4f2b3b3e27f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">began offering employees a $10,000 \u201cde-location\u201d incentive<\/a>&nbsp;to move&nbsp;<em>away<\/em>&nbsp;from Silicon Valley. Meanwhile, a new startup called&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/mainstreetwork\/introducing-mainstreet-affd69f093e0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MainStreet announced<\/a>&nbsp;they will be training new remote workers across suburban and rural America and helping them find tech jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"6559\">In the future, there will be plenty of similar programs and incentives to support workers who choose to leave large cities and tech hubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ae41\">2. It\u2019s also proven to adversely affect people\u2019s moods, mental health, and productivity. By simply eliminating the daily commute, workers can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/swlh\/how-to-reclaim-years-of-your-life-by-becoming-a-digital-nomad-593b9b28a42\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">save thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours<\/a>&nbsp;per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"870b\">Once people get a taste of what life is like without a commute, they\u2019ll never go back. (Hell, they may never leave their houses.) Plus, crowdfunding makes it easier than ever to raise capital rather than applying for a bank loan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"751a\">As the number of people working online increases, so will the demand for global, agile, banking solutions with low fees and transfer times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"5c93\">Global markets will also change. Industries such as technology, travel, and services should increase in value and market cap compared to traditional manufacturing and brick-and-mortar retail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"686e\">11. This ambiguity needs to change for clarity, consistency and ensuring the flow of business. And it will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ddab\">Eventually, there will be international citizenship, work permit, passport, and taxation system for the millions (or billions) of nomadic \u201ccitizens of the world.\u201d Unofficially, companies like&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/RemoteYearTravel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Remote Year<\/a>&nbsp;already count thousands of alumni, or \u201ccitizens,\u201d in their \u201cRemote Nations.\u201d But soon, there will be international remote labour laws and standards for companies, freelancers, and entrepreneurs to organize around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"57df\">Having consistent, transparent, and fair international regulations around remote work is a good thing. It provides certainty for online businesses and reflects society\u2019s increasing sense of shared humanity, identity, and collective global consciousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"d6f9\">12. Stop accepting the status quo if it\u2019s not working for you. Think creatively and make a plan to achieve what you want in life.<\/li><li><strong>Improve your skills.<\/strong>&nbsp;Focus on continuous learning and self-development to remain competitive in the new economy and fight the threat of automation.<\/li><li><strong>Set your terms.<\/strong>&nbsp;Ask your employer for flexible work, or find alternative options. Just remember we are at the beginning of the remote work wave, and it\u2019s not entirely mainstream yet.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5bb3\">Companies:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><strong>Embrace the reality&nbsp;<\/strong>that remote work is the new normal. Change is hard, but it\u2019s inevitable.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ce25\">2.&nbsp;<strong>Become an early adopter.<\/strong>&nbsp;Start integrating remote work policies&nbsp;<em>now \u2014&nbsp;<\/em>before they\u2019re mandated.
